"Northern Reflections" CD - February 19, 2008

I "accidentally" put out a new CD! I do sound effects for plays. I had done the sound effects for the Bloomington Arts Center production of "On Golden Pond". The director was looking for music to play between scenes and I was sure I had just what he was looking for. I had some acoustic fingerpicking tracks I had pitched for an outdoor film that hadn't got picked up. I wrote a new one to go with them and added some loon sound effects in the background. Very organic and calming.
The very first night of the production someone came up to the sound operator and asked where they could buy the songs they'd heard. The requests kept coming in and "Northern Reflections" was born! My wife, Mary, did all the graphics and we are producing them at home. I'm opening a store at: www.myspace.com/royholdren if you'd like to download them or contact me if you'd like a hard copy.

Finalist in Nashville's "SongMania" - February 1, 2008

I participated January 31 in "SongMania" at Douglas Corner in Nashville.
SongMania is a live song contest put on by the Songwriters Guild of America. If you're song is not the funniest in your round, then they have an "excuse off". The funniest songs and the funniest excuses make the finals.
My song "We Can't Go To Kroger Anymore" was funny enough to get me in the finals where I was seated between Thom Shepard (Redneck Yacht Club) and Lisa Carver (Everyday America). Heady company indeed!
Alas, my song was not funny enough to win but my excuse was good enough to get me in the "excuse off" where, again, I failed to come in first but did manage to have a wonderful time and meet new friends in the Nashville songwriting community. What a gas!
